Automotive: Total Quality Management
A supplier in the automotive industry requires a software system for quality management purposes. As the supplier’s value chain spans several production sites, a web-based solution is desired. For each sub-process of the value chain, the respective process owner will define the actual criterions, that are needed to satisfy the input quality requirements of the following process in the value chain. The criterions are to be made available as individual computer check-lists at key workplaces involved in the process. There, two workers, to whom the process owner has appointed responsibility roles for the actual validation of the criteria, will cross-check the fulfilment of each criterion and mark the checkboxes on the computer form accordingly. Thus, a quality management system shall be implemented, that is not only accurate, but also flexible for changes in each processes quality requirements and fits the decentralized structure of the organization.
RAPPTOR is the ideal platform for uses scenarios like this. Responsibilities are easily assigned using the intelligent graph-based access right managements. Thus, the process owners can manage access rights for their subordinate workers and even add or change quality criterions for checking as the need arises, based on the insight from their daily experience. When e.g. a new type of fault is discovered, they can quickly add checking for the fault and designate a trusted worker for inspection.
When computer forms are workplace-specific and even often updated, this looks like a lot and also continuous work for the developers. Not so with RAPPTOR. The described functionality would be implemented as a plug-in for the business logic. Then, the presentation engine will automatically generate the appropriate user interface based on the plug-in’s object mark-up, the information in the RDF-store and the visual application theme. As all data is routed through the RDF-store, the developer does not need to care for details of the data structure. Data management is configured just once through XML-files, making relational, XML, file-system-stored and semantic data accessible through a common API that manages all data sources in a virtual tree.
RAPPTOR runs on the Mono and Microsoft .Net platform.
